No Wizard or Sorcery Books Even If They Are Popular, Not to Pick and Choose Which Rules to Follow, Taking Our Vows Seriously posts

Since Bible Passages That Can Influence Your Life, is now on line through individual posts, I am now putting several links together for each post. I found groupings of three posts worked well for anyone interested in using these for a Bible study group.  Debbie Seiling

Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.  Leviticus, Chapter 19:31.

This tells me that God doesn’t want me watching TV shows where people are trying to get in contact with my deceased loved ones.  He, also, doesn’t want me reading books about wizards and sorcery even though there are many books written for children these days that are very popular with adults, as well.

Here are some related passages:
*And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a-whoring after them, I will even set My face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.  Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.  And ye shall keep My Statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.  Leviticus, Chapter 20, verses 6-8.
*A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.  Leviticus, Chapter 20, verse 27.

Therefore shall ye observe all My Statutes, and all My judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.  Leviticus, Chapter 19, verse 37.

God didn’t say to follow the rules that sound good to us or are convenient for us and leave the rest.  We are to observe them all! [Although God knows none of us is perfect, He still wants us to try to do as He's asked us.] Added

Here are some related passages:
*Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His Commandments to a thousand generations.  And repayeth them that hate Him to their face, to destroy them: He will not be slack to him that hateth Him, He will repay him to his face.  Thou shalt therefore keep the Commandments, and the Statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.  Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which He sware unto thy fathers.  Deuteronomy, Chapter 7, verses 9-12.
*But if ye will not obey the Voice of the LORD, but rebel against the Commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.  1 Samuel, Chapter 12, verse 15.
*The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence His soul hateth.  Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.  For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; His countenance doth behold the upright.  Psalm, Chapter 11, verses 5-7.

If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.  Numbers, Chapter 30, verse 2.

After reading this, it became very apparent to me that God really wants us to take our vows seriously and to actually do what we say we are going to do.  We aren’t to say things in a stressful situation like, “God, if you just get me through this IRS audit, I promise I will give money to the poor.”  When the audit is over, the person is relieved and forgets all about the vow they made.  We don’t have to make promises to God when we pray, but if we do, we are to make sure that we take our vows seriously.

Here is a related passage:

*When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.  Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.  Ecclesiastes, Chapter 5, verses 4-5.

Because this is an example of how I’ve applied this Bible passage to my life, it doesn't necessarily reflect the whole meaning of the passage.
